I have a confession – I’m a little obsessed with the dollar tree. 90% of my purchases are from there- and when you DIY as much as I do it really saves the money!
I saw these cool entry way planters while searching Pinterest for halloween decor – and wanted to give them a try!
Step one : beg hubby to take you to the dollar tree to purchase 24 skulls 💀
Step two : gather all the goodies ☠️ – I bought 24 skulls, four hands, foam, wire and glue for my glue gun! (If you don’t have Spanish moss in your backyard like we do you’ll want to grab a few bags of that too!)
Step three: beg hubby to take you to Lowe’s, Home Depot, menards, or Walmart 💀 (the trick here is to really make them think the trip is for them, and then you just so happen to stumble into the gardening section to get the creepy planters you need! Lol) and don’t forget two dowel rods!
Step four : spray paint the pots because no one has black lots this time of year 🙄
Step five : drill holes in the bottom of pots for dowel rods
Step six : hot glue foam to the bottom of the pot & the shove dowel rod thru foam & hole in pot. Add extra hot glue for stability.
Step seven : (optional but highly recommended if these will be outdoors) add wire to the top of the pot & around the dowel rod to add more stability. I did 8 sections of wire (and forgot to get a photo)
Step eight : (also optional, but recommended!) add burlap or creepy fabric to stretch across the top of the pot to keep from having to fill the entire pot with moss.
Step nine : cut Xs into your skulls. These should all be at different spots/angles so that the heads all sit differently on the rods!
Step ten : slide all the heads onto the rods – I didn’t leave any space between the heads.
Step eleven : take your pots outside and add Spanish moss as you’d like! I used it to help cover up the hot glue on the feet of the birds & lots of it in the bottom! Add in your hands & you’re done!
I am sooooo excited to use these in photo sessions also! – stay tuned to see the pics! – 💙- CC
